Cookies and storage on this site

This page explains what the studychinese.id website stores in or loads into your browser, why, and how to remove it. In short: we set no advertising cookies, and analytics cookies are used only if you agree. For the Study Chinese app and your account data, see the Privacy Policy.

1.Our local storage

This site keeps a few small notes in your browser's local storage (localStorage). These are not cookies: they are not sent to any server automatically, and they stay on your device until you remove them.

• sc_src — the source code of your first visit, for example from the link in our Instagram bio (the ?src= parameter). It is used for 30 days to learn which channel brought visitors, and it is passed along as a campaign code when you open the App Store. After 30 days it is no longer used.
• sc_device — a random ID for this device, created when you open the App page or tap an App Store button. It accompanies simple event records we send to our own server (Supabase): a visit to the App page, with the source code, device type (iOS, Android, or other), and the name of the site that referred you; and App Store button taps. The ID contains no name, email, or other personal data, and it does not expire on its own.
• sc_consent — your answer to the analytics cookie banner (agree or decline), the policy version, and when you answered. Created only when Google Analytics is active and you answer the banner.
• hz_web_lang and hz_guest_mp — only on the /play page for playing together as a guest: the display language you chose, and a temporary guest identity so you can rejoin the same game room.

2.Cookies

We set no cookies of our own on this site. The only cookies that may appear are Google Analytics cookies (_ga, and _ga_ followed by the site ID), and only after you press "Agree" on the consent banner. Google Analytics is not active yet, so these cookies are not in use.

3.Third-party services this site loads

• Vercel Web Analytics — aggregate visit statistics (for example pages viewed and device type) with no cookies and no ID that follows you from site to site.
• Google Fonts — this site's typefaces load from Google's servers (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). As with any request to another server, Google can see your IP address and browser details when the fonts load. No cookie is set for this.
• Google Analytics 4 — site usage statistics. Not active yet. If we turn it on, its script loads only after you press "Agree" on the banner; before that there are no requests to Google Analytics and no analytics cookies. Google's advertising signals are always declined.

This site does not embed YouTube videos or other third-party players or social media widgets. Links to Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, or the App Store only contact those services when you click them.

4.Changing your choice & clearing data

Your analytics cookie choice

While Google Analytics is active, the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page reopens the consent banner, so you can change your answer at any time. If you decline after agreeing earlier, we delete the Google Analytics cookies already stored. Because Google Analytics is not active yet, there is no choice for you to set.

Clearing everything

Clear the site data for studychinese.id in your browser settings (for example in Chrome: Settings, then Privacy and security; in Safari on iPhone: Settings, then Safari, then Advanced, then Website Data). This removes all of the notes above at once. Incognito or private windows also discard everything when closed.

5.Changes to this policy

If we add or change cookies or storage on this site, this page will be updated along with the "effective" date above. A material change to analytics cookies brings the consent banner back.
